Vappy.net was created in
October 2003 and has been a placeholder for my personal stuff ever
since. Before that, I used free hosts such as Angelfire (*sigh*
memories), Geocities, Freeservers, Crosswinds, and well... basically
every free site out there XD; (that is, until they became overrun
with ads and they reduced the size of bandwidth.)
Aside from the main layout, I
also host one fanlisting (Mustard
of your D00m) and a Nintendo fansite (The
Yoshi Yellow Pages). I also host an
Oekaki and
Messageboard.
Previous Layouts
These layouts date back to when
I first entered the Yoshi community as "Vaporshi" in late 1999. You
can see my HTML slowly improving...in a very shameful manner.
Vaporshi's Hangout 1.0 - Augh.
Just... augh. This would be the very first layout I created when I
joined the yoshi fandom era in '99. This site contained no actual
HTML save the text colour and images. Basically, it was a white
background with text, although I recall having an annoying tiling
banner at one point that read, "Vaporshi's Hangout" in a disgusting
font I got from a cheap Suite Program. The scariest part is that I
was extremely proud of my work at the time. Please ignore the lamer
writing. We were all lamers during one point in our life >>;
Vaporshi's Hangout 2.0 - After
abandoning geocities, I made my way to freeservers.com where I
edited one of their templates for a sidebar effect. I had no clue
how to use tables, and I somehow managed to make this site
unavailable to Netscape users. (Something in the html of the
template, I guess...) I think I'm ranting about it in the update
shown... *squint eyes*.
Vaporshi's Ocean Palace
-I soon became bored with the "Hangout" bit, and changed it
to "Ocean Palace". I also abandoned freeservers and made my way to
crosswinds, which was a decent server at the time (Unlimited
space + Unlimited Bandwidth + No Banners + Free = Awesome sauce).
During this time I was RPing rapidly and Vap was currently living in
a palace with all her vaporeons, and...yeah. Pretty crummy idea.
This layout is gorgeous, so it was obviously not made by me. An old
friend of mine known as YoshiGeno was kind enough to whip up a
layout for me, and I made the shitty subpages. Crosswinds soon added
banners that filled the entire page, and I eventually left when my
entire account was deleted due to technical errors.
Vap's Shameless Portal - I was
without a website for quite awhile -and had gotten fed up with free
hosts, because they screwed me over many a time- when Diskmaster
offered to host me at his domain:
Disktech. I took up the offer
immediately and made a "portal" site that linked to random stuff. I
discovered the joy of tables and image maps and abused their
existance. As you can see, I did a HORRIBLE job. This website did
not last long, and I updated probably once in the few months it
existed.
vappy [dot] non-com 1.0
- I discovered CSS, and with the help of Laina and Pink I
created an internal-based CSS website. I decided I was tired of
website names like, "Vaporshi's ______" and wanted something
simple... sooo I called it vappy[dot]non-com, which isn't simple,
when I think about it now. The first layout lasted until I up and
left Disk's server, and went to my friend (Jeremy)'s host:
Eternalvoid.net.
vappy [dot] non-com 2.0 - I quickly
settled down at Eternalvoid and decided my site needed to be more
"flashy", so I made icons for the sections, and had a cute little
rollover thing. When you put your mouse over "Navigation" it would
change to "Main". If you clicked said button, it would return you
to the main menu. Unfortunately, Jeremy killed off his server and I
was left siteless... again. I decided to wait until I could register
my own domain where I'd have complete control.
vappy.net 1.0 - I finally scored
myself a domain, and boy was I pleased! XD I used a mixture of CSS
and Iframes, although I heard Iframes aren't great for older
versions of Netscape. However, I was generally pleased with the
layout and everyone I talked to could access it fine. The side image
was one of my favourite renditions of Jade, drawn by
Lady Laguna. As you can see, there
wasn't very much content...which is why I decided to revamp the site
and spiff if up.
vappy.net 2.0
- In an attempt to spiff up my site and attract more
visitors, I decided to try something new and added screentones and
music! Hoorah. It took me an extremely long time to create this
layout, and the lack of creativity
was almost as bad as the sandwiches I make.
This layout existed for a good month or so before I completely
demolished it.
vappy 3.0 - It took me awhile to
create a layout that could top this one. Despite its simplicity 3.0
is one of my favourite layouts. It was a pain to update the
navigation bar though because I had to go through every seperate
page. 3.0 was my first time using tones in the background which made
loading-time faster.
vappy 4.0 - This layout was okay. I
really liked it at first but in order to make it look nice in 800 x
600 and 1024 x 768 I had to make the tables reeeally big which, as
you can see, makes it look crappy in large resolutions such as my
own. Also, using an image map was a pain because I couldn't make any
quick changes to the sidebar without having to open up PSP and edit
everything. I was also getting tired of the usual black-on-blue
background and wanted to try something new. |
